From The Thoughts Of A Paintballer

December 18th, 2008 by kkpc

This article is written by a local Paintballer nicknamed Meeze from Sarawak in our forum.  I found it worth to share to all, especially to those who thinks of wanted to get into paintball sport or newbies alike.  Enjoy reading!

PAINTBALL.. how long can it last?

Postby meezee on December 12th, 2008, 5:52 pm

other sports is just a sport. we like playing it. we have fun. we sweat. but in most situation, we don’t get into the game. we just go out and play. but to start the game, of course we buy few gears; for soccer, we will buy soccer boots. tennis, we buy racket and ball. hockey, we buy stick. basketball, we just go to the field, then play. what i mean is, it’s kind of easy to start any game/sports nowadays. but as I said, we are not INTO the sport. we just like it. we play. but our heart is not there. for some, YES.

for paintball, it’s not just a sport. it’s more than that. even when u read this article, u already start to think, “which category paintball falls into? sport? X-game? leisure? lifestyle? hobbies?”.. even when i went to bookstores in KL, I seldom found paintball magazine on the SPORT shelves. sometimes on lifestyle, sometimes on motorcycle shelves, sometimes it just appears on gun & pistol shelves. even the shopper don’t really know where to display paintball magazines!
guys, look.. paintball falls under what category u want it to be. You choose. U decide from start. let say u play your very first game, what do u fell after that?

1) very damn excited. this kind of people will start to enter the paintball life.
2) im having fun. he will play again for 2nd or 3rd time with same feelings. the adrenaline stagnant. but he might turn into group no. 1.
3) hhmm.. ok la. but sakit sikit. this type of people, u just can see him play ocassionally. eg; family day, team building.
4) tak suka la. sakit! taknak la. ok, this one.. no need to talk la. he/she will be a bit richer than u who play paintball, of course! haha

ok, now u think what group are u in? are u the one who spend more than 3 hours daily on the internet, surfing “Russian legion and dynasty or one gun with maximus”??
or are u the person who keep SMSing pro shop salesman asking for prices and gears again and again, even in midnight??
or are u the one who enter hundred of paintball forums, searching for infinity information about this paintball world??

if you are this type of person, then you are falls into category no. 1.

attention to this group and those who want to join this group (i’m also in this category, and still survive! but tired swimming…). this is the time that all of us will decide our path in paintball. either we survive, or we sink. frankly say, I say this sport is F**cking sh*t! because everything is so expensive, BUT I already INTO this paintball, and keep looking forward to it. I cant stop or pause. Im getting more and more excited in paintball. and I guarantee, thousands of people out there is having the same feelings as mine.

from my opinion, to survive, we plan our expenses on paintball stuff. most people didnt plan so wise when it comes to paintball gears. as for me, marker, loader and tank is the most important things to have. these 3 things, last longer. tidak reput, tidak luntur, of course. but after a while, maybe we should change our loader bcoz of cracks, feed neck loose, etc. but that will happen after 3-4 years. marker? yeah, no doubt that all company producing markers never say that their product will last only for 3 months, or 12 months, or disposable (throw after you game!). everytime u buy markers, the body will last FOREVER!! tank? hydro test after 5 years. no big deal. play as many as u like. but after 5 years, hydro test.

ok, now you have marker, loader and tank. “meezee, if this is the expenses, how can we sink in this paintball games??” yeah, you’re right. everyone will survive in this game for quite a long time if this is the case. if we control our expenses wise and spend wise, we can stay longer. “meezee, u havent answer my question…” OK, OK… there will be time when u (that includes me) start to change your marker again and again as new products come by, start to change your loader again and again as new products come by and start to buy new tank as light as the new product come by until u get the lightest tank, the fastest loader, the most accurate marker in the universe!! yeah, i’m blaming myself for cannot control everytime i see new products coming in. this attitude is really really bad in paintball. this habits KILLS your interest in paintball. this culture will make u SINK and suffocate. u have to control this. this is not good at all. i saw many people doing this, upgrading their loaders, markers, tank again and again within short time of period. even 2-3 months before start tournament, they already upgrade their gears and they put away the stock one which they haven’t use! and then , after the tournament, they upgrade again. and so on.

it’s ok to upgrade. yeah upgrade means u want to have better markers, more comfortable, so u can shoot better and play better.

PLAY BETTER KA??? WHUT!!!???hello??!!… u automatically can play better if u use ego 09 ka? u can snap shoot better if u use droid ka? u can dive and slide better if u buy STAKO tank ah? so easy meh?? with money u can play better ma? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha… so easy this game. only rich people can win if like this.

NO! u cant improve your game play and skill if u ONLY upgrade your markers. i repeat… U CANNOT. guys, wake up. stop upgrading nonsense setting on your marker. stop membeli membuta tuli barang2 paintball just by listening to others without experience it. players, marker gives u only 10%-15% chances of winning in the game. I repeat, 10%-15% chances!.. where are the 85% goes? aiya.. ini pun mau tanya ka?? u tengok Ronaldo main bola. dia punya boot rm600-rm700 punya harga ma. tapi u rasa kalau dia pakai boot harga rm150, u rasa dia punya performance drop ka? no way! ronaldo plays like he use to play. he will play as hard as he wears the rm600 boots. he play with skills and brain. that is how you should play paintball. improve your skills. learn more how to play in various position. learn how to handle pressure. but paling penting… ini betul2 paling penting… JOIN TOURNAMENT MA!!!! adoh… tidak guna beli barang mahal2 if u don’t play in tournament. the pressure, the experience while playing in tournament is totally different than weekly training we play at our local field. don’t waste you rm3000 marker in your car or store. use it. play like hell.

the time will come when we will have difficult time in life. we live in reality world. we have responsibilities. we have car to pay. we have credit cards to settle. we have house rental to pay every months. we have parents that we need to take care of. we have wife and children that we need to feed them and send them to school. all of this requires MONEY. when this time come to us, this is the time most of us fail to survive and sink. this is the time we regret to play paintball. then we start to question ourselves “why I spent so much on this, on that, on loader, on tank.. bal.. bla..” we started to hate paintball. then, there you go….. no more paintball. don’t blame paintball. u know it is an expensive game. not just expensive, but f**king expensive. blame yourself. u cant blame pro shop for selling u with high price. they also want to have profits. don’t blame field owner for selling expensive pellets. don’t blame credits cards company for giving so much interest. blame yourself. you control your own expenses. YOU! YOU! YOU!

this is not a cindrella stories. this is dilemma. this is attitude. this is reality on what happen in paintball world. if only u decide wisely at the very beginning, u will survive and happy playing paintball for many many years to come. paintball is a promising game. with bright future. ONLY if we can choose the correct path for it.

NPPL just declared bankrupt. no more super 7, no more 5 men NPPL.

so, guys… HOW LONG CAN IT LAST??

Paintball World Cup Asia News

Thanks Eric Foo for posting this article into our forum. Thank You Ariel Chew for coming to WCA to make help us out to spread the paintball awareness to people out there.

An Extreme Sport of the Colourful Kind
Words by Ariel Chew

Extreme, you say?

Some people say that paintball can cause massive injuries if the safety rules are not obeyed. Others say that the marker is actually a gun in disguise and therefore, could be deemed as a weapon.

But I have another theory why paintball is considered an extreme sport.

See, no one who has played paintball before can feel neutral about it. There are no two ways about it - paintball generates emotions to the extreme. Either they love it so much that they are addicted to it or they get totally freaked out by memories of being shot at or having to breathe through a suffocating foggy mask.

Does it hurt?

The fear is real. Tons of people have great concern over the amount of pain incurred should a paint pellet hit them. “It’s a frequent question among the first-timers who come to my centre. They would ask me if it would hurt badly,” said Gabrielle Sheila Sunam, the 28-year old operator of Kota Kinabalu Paintball Centre. “I would tell them to go ahead, play a game and experience getting hit themselves. If they can take the pain, good. If the pain’s too much for them, then they are free to stop after a game.”
Image
“Of course it hurts!” chuckled 40-year old Garry Husband, one of the head referees of the recent Paintball World Cup Asia Series held in Xtion Paintball Park, Bukit Jalil. Which was why most of the referees were clad in at least two layers of jersey, despite the hot weather. Being protected from injuries by their clothing frees them to concentrate fully in refereeing the game instead of trying to duck away from the painful paint pellets.

“But the pain ceases to matter when the player is gripped by the sheer adrenaline rush of the game.” The English man also fondly known as Jabba the Hut proceeded to show me a round scar on the side of his neck. The scar had been there for years and years and was just one of many. The other referees also have their own battle scars, but it was the least of their concerns.

“You need to have guts to play paintball,” stressed Kamarulzaman, a 24-year old referee.

By the time a player qualifies for a tournament, the aches and pains of paintball are but a distant and forgotten fear. They are hooked to paintball because they like competition, movement, strategy and improving their skills.

Garry, who has been involved in paintball since 1986 had this to add, “It takes a certain type of person to be a paintball player. It also takes a particular type of person to be a marshal or referee. The player gets rewarded by the adrenaline rush and sense of victory when they win a game. The referee, however, has to get their kicks by some other means.”

A passion to ensure fair play and seeing the rules of the game being adhered to are the things that keeps him motivated to referee paintball tournaments all over the world. “I also love the fact that I make many new friends every tournament I go to. And to me, there’s nothing more fun than paintball, even twenty two years down the road!”

Malaysia, the Paintball Hub of Asia Pacific

The history of paintball in Malaysia began barely 8 years ago when the first paintball game was held in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. The paintball fever only started gaining momentum from 2006 onwards when the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Tourism Ministry took an interest in the sport and promoted it to the masses. Thereafter paintball fields and teams started growing like mushrooms after the rain.

“Even though Malaysia is at its infancy stage in paintball (as compared to countries like United States of America and Europe that have about 20 years of head start), the Malaysian teams have quickly acquired the experience and skills to compete internationally”, said Raja Khairul of Skirmish Paintball Asia, the main sponsor for WCA 2008. Such was the glowing feedback received from the other international teams he met while competing in tournaments worldwide.

Image
Skirmish Paintball Asia has implemented a few strategies to promote paintball in the country such as dropping the price of their products to 50% - 60% of their original price. “We want to create a greater awareness for this sport and to make it affordable for everyone to play,” said TC Gan, co-founder of Skirmish Paintball Asia.

Add year-long sunny weather, great infrastructure and ample land for playing fields to the equation, it is no wonder that Malaysia is the leading paintball hub for Asia Pacific and venue for the Paintball World Cup Asia (WCA) tournaments.

Started in 2006, the championship is the third in the series and is rapidly gaining popularity and participation from various parts of Asia and even Europe. The excitement was thick and palpable at the tournment which took place last weekend at Xtion Paintball Park, Bukit Jalil.

“Yeah phew, it’s definitely hot here but we love it!” said the cheerful members of WASP from Australia who were one of the participants of WCA 2008.

Girls Wanna Have Fun, Too
Image
Paintball is one game where girls get equal footing with guys. It’s not a sport that celebrates pure brawns and brutal strength. All you need is to be a team player, have good reflexes and be nimble on your feet.

Mahira, a sweet and petite 16-year old girl hails from Team Warrior. Together with her other guy team members, they won the MY-NPL 2008 Division 3 championship held on 1-2 November in Petaling Jaya.

“I like my team because everyone dares to take risks and try new strategies,” she said with a winsome grin.

When asked if she was treated any differently because she was the only girl in the group, she merely shrugged, “No, they treat every member the same. No special treatment for me at all but that’s fine by me.”

The dainty lass have been playing paintball for the past 2 years. It was a way to release the stress and tension of studying. Like any hardcore paintball player, she was not concerned about scars and pain caused by the sport. “I love having to make split second decisions and thinking on my feet. Although my ambition is to be a doctor, I also dream of being a professional paintball player one day.”

You go, girl.

Age Doesn’t Matter, Really

Young or old, everyone who’s anyone can play paintball. The young ones would prefer the tournament or speedball type of games. These games are typically held in the small confines of a playing field with colourful air inflatable bunkers and are over within 2 to 5 minutes. Being physically fit is a must at speedball.

The older ones (40 and above) normally prefer woodsball (games held in the jungle or larger fields). The bigger field size and typically larger amount of players lead to a longer playing time. This allows for scenario game playing such as ambushes, capturing of forts and protecting VIPs.
Habibah Abdullah, the youthful looking 54 year-old manager of Team Warrior said with twinkling eyes. “Paintball keeps me young at heart. It is fun, keeps me on my toes and gives me a zest for life. Anyone who wants to look and feel young should give paintball a try.”

The woman knows what she’s talking about. Her husband Roselan Yaacob competed in the Paintball World Cup Asia 2008 Division 2 with gusto and he’s 56 years old!

Team Warrior

A Healthy Hobby

A year ago, Habibah got involved in paintball for her son’s sake. Hafizil was 14 years old then and wasn’t very good in football or basketball. He loved paintball but was too young to join his older brother’s team. Habibah decided to scout around for players around her son’s age and soon Team Warrior (comprising youths) was birthed.

“I don’t regret my decision to form the team because I see such wonderful changes in each of the members’ lives. They learned how to work as one, how to care for each other and respect their teachers/trainers. They matured a lot in this one year,” said Habibah. “The changes are possible because the youngsters are so teachable and eager to learn.”

She was also grateful for the generous guidance given to her charges by experienced paintball players from other teams especially Killer Bees which is led by her 28-year old son Hafizin.

The unique and vibrant family has 3 paintball teams under one roof – Team Warrior managed Habibah, Team Killer Bees led by her son Hafizin and Team Rimba Bandits led by her hubby Roselan. They also run a paintball field set in a jungle called Kem Isi Rimba.

Looking at them, it’s safe to say that a family that plays paintball together stays together.

Some people shy from playing paintball because it can be a rather costly affair. The paintball marker, mask, paint pellets, rental of playing field and other related gear don’t come cheap. Still, the benefits derived from the sport make it worth every sen. It gets kids out of their stuffy computer rooms into fresh air and sunshine. It provides much-needed exercise and is a great stress reliever to city slickers. Best of all, it teaches discipline, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

So, what are you waiting for? Head for the nearest paintball centre to see if you have what it takes to play some fast ball.

Welcome 1st intake of Sabah Branch’s Malaysian Marshals

November 19th, 2007 by kkpc

Finally, another long, busy weekend has ended.  We can at least breathe a bit before the next activity begins.

Since the week before, we had been very busy planning and organising things for our upcoming projects and events that extended up to the year 2008.  Gabrielle really need the 2008 calendar now =p

Day one - 17th November 2007.  It was raining since the night before.  Everyone has been up early, the team all forget about the TGIF thingy and went to bed early so that all will be up, punctual and ready for the morning last preparations to be done.  Miguel was busy with the preparations in the field with Rooney; the ladies all set up with plans who’s picking up the President of the Malaysian Marshal from the airport, food and many more.

Participants arrived at 9am with looks of anticipation and they got so excited, that it was our turn to be so nervous - owh well, thank God…Gabrielle started the introduction first - the general things about paintball, history, do’s and don’ts as a player, safety and so on; followed by technical advice and demonstrations by Rooney, the Technician Supervisor.

The ladies then left the field for the afternoon tasks while the guys at the field with the participants.  After the necessary things had been done, they were waiting for Junaidi after lunch and decided to try out the game, which is the first time - for many of the participants.  After all, before someone decided to become a Marshal, it is well best to put ourselves as the player first - don’t cha think so?  Well, as far as I concerned, I haven’t met someone who wanted to be a Marshal before trying out their first experience as a player.  Like what we’ve been told many times before "Everyone can be a player - but not everyone can be a Marshal." =p

Junaidi arrived at about 3pm.  The new session started, which is concerning more theory lessons on marshalling the field, the importance of marshals in the paintball field, traits, rules and regulations, penalty and many more.  Theory session ended almost 2 hours later.

Day 2 - 18th November 2007.  It’s raining heavily but the lesson continues.  Participants learnt more on the scoring, match points and Q & A sessions of possible scenarios that might happen in the field and its solutions.  Thank God, the weather turns ok as the afternoon approaches.  It’s time where all the participants been waiting for - practical!!  During this practical sessions, The Hoodlums were invited to play in KKPC versus the participants, monitored by some of the participants as well.  Then, everyone had the chance to take turns as the players and marshals with lots of disputes and many kind of characters and possible scenarios that might happen in the tournament field.  It was fun, funny and exciting!  =)

The day finally ended with the cerfiticate awarding ceremony and also not forgetting we presenting a gift and a T-shirt for Junaidi for remembrance and our gratitude.  Seeing as each and every participant left the premise one by one - with tired but happy faces, we glad to find the job was well done.

As for the newly appointed Sabah Branch’s Malaysian Marshals, once again - WELCOME TO THE TEAM.  Remember - everyone is counted for and each and every one of you is important to make sure the game was well played and event will be run smoothly; regardless if you are in the field or otherwise.  We are the ones who will make sure that our players will have a fun, memorable game.

It’s been nice having you people with us.  hope to meet up again! =)

DISCIPLINE IN PAINTBALL

September 23rd, 2007 by kkpc

leSimple things to do to keep paintball fun and injury-free.

Wear masks at all times
When a game is being played, wear your mask at all times. Do not remove your mask in the dead zone if the dead zone is within the field. There is NO exception to this rule. Keep masks on until barrel plugs have been placed back on all players’ markers. Remember that most severe paintball injuries occur because someone removed their mask at an inappropriate time.

Do Not Drink and Play
If you are under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription medicine, DO NOT PLAY PAINTBALL. Keep things safe and only play if you are fully coherent.

No DRY firing outside the field
Dry firing is shooting without loader or with empty loader. if you do that in any of pb field in US, Europe, people will say "why the f*ck is this noob doing there"

So dont think that by doing so you will look cool, instead true paintballer will think you are a complete nut.

No Blind Firing
Do not fire if you can’t see what you are firing at. Many players are tempted to stick their markers out and fire without looking, but avoid this. Blind firing can lead to accidentally shooting players who are leaving the field, referees, or other things you shouldn’t shoot.

Surrenders
Close-range shots are considerably more painful than shots from a distance and it is customary to offer a surrender to any opposing player within twenty feet.

Many fields require players to accept surrender if another player has come within twenty feet and has a shot on them.

Shoot Less Than 290 FPS
Keep paintball velocities under 290 feet per second (FPS). Marker speeds can be timed with a paintball chronograph (available for use at most pro shops), and should be carefully monitored. A paintball that travels at 290 FPS can cause small bruises, while a paintball that travels faster can cause significantly more damage including severe welts and broken skin.

Use Barrel Plugs
Whenever masks are not being worn, all markers should be blocked with a barrel plug or barrel sock. This safety measure is good and should be used, but implementation often fail or not properly used, and a physical protection from wayward paintballs is a must. Unless everyone has a mask on, do not take out your barrel plugs.

Marshall
The appointed field marshall is not standing in the field to WORK for you. So dont be stupid by asking them to do this and that for you. They are with you in the field to ensure your SAFETY. So get used to being scolded by field marshalls when you do wrong, because your safety is the main reason they are hired. If you think you could not OBEY the PAINTBALL FIELD rules, the marshalls’ commands, then please leave the field because paintball sport COULD not tolerate stupid chimps who would not read the rules.

There is a quote from one paintball field in New Jersey saying that "MARSHALL ALWAYS RIGHT AREA"
- CUSTOMER IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE HERE, ONLY PAINTBALLER DOes
-

So i guess you can understand why such rules are created. Some snobbish just like to think that they could do anything just because they have $ to pay the pallet. They complain this and that and often break the field rules too. But many field will rather lose this type of customer (i dont like to call them paintballer anyway because they dont deserve to be one) than losing the paintball image which is one of the most HIGH DISCIPLINE-required sport.

Some operator even ban this type of chimp out from the field (no next visit dude!!) because rather than keeping them, they will ruin the whole paintball industry around should an accident occur. Safety is not an accident. If you think our safety measures are intolerable, try think if you could tolerate living with one/no eye for the rest of your life ;)

Common Sense
Most problems can be avoided if you just use common sense. Don’t shoot private property (this include cow, dog, cat or any other animal you seen around). Don’t shoot out of a moving vehicle. Don’t look down the barrel of a loaded gun. Don’t shoot yourself, etc.

If you ever thought of doing something cool (breaking the rules - dry firing, take off your face masks, lose your barrel plugs, etc), just to show off, think again. Twice. Thrice. Many times if you have to. Then forget about it!

Don’t Take Off Your Mask Until the Game is Over
This has already been said, but needs repeating: DO NOT REMOVE YOUR MASK WHILE A GAME IS STILL BEING PLAYED! Most severe injuries can be avoided if players simply keep their masks on.

ALWAYS REMEMBER
GOOD PAINTBALLERS KNOW THE RULES TO MAINTAIN SAFETY OF THEMSELVES AND OTHERS IN THE FIELD.

Different between oversea and local

July 4th, 2007 by kkpc

ok for my first post, let me just go straight to the point.

i would like to stress out a question raise for us about buying a marker. thought sometimes it could sicken me to hear the same old non-commonsense question but i would still gonna answer you this.

Q : You are selling cheapest price for your product?
A: Considering the transportation to borneo, and compare to other supplier around nationwide, for now YES.

Q : why is the marker you listed is RM1k plus, where i found on internet stated that in US only sell for 200usd?
A: duh… hello..~~! let me give you some simple explaination. IF, im saying IF you assume a merz benz selling for RM100k in germany, do you think the price you get in Malaysia would be the same?

think about it.

it would raise up to 300-400k when it reach malaysia as you have to cover those AP’s, Tax, transportation and al other fee, and plus some minor profit.

It same applied to a marker. for a paintball marker you need to get an AP (from PDRM and not everyone allowed to get it) to get those marker. also you need to bear all the cost everything. When you want to make comparison PLEASE make a comparison between malaysian retail price not with US/UK or even Fiji (if fiji got paintball shop) retail price. Im sick of those who actually doesnt understand the concept of business before arguing this thing.

Please do your homework and try to buy one marker online and ship to your address in malaysia without having those procedure, and let see it would end up in your hand, or forever in the kastam detaintion warehouse (i will be the happiest person to bit on those stuff when got kastam lelong awam)

Q : what is the best thing to purchase in east malaysia compare to west malaysia?
A : warranty and services. ok when we talk about marker, its just like other electronic stuff that could have a problem anytime. you dont want to send out your marker back to west malaysia just because it have some problem in the middle of the game. if you are those paintball operator, think about it how many days you will eventually run out of business if you need to send your marker for repair.

As an official dealer for Tippmann, NPS etc, we are certified in servicing and warranty claim to cover those matter arrise. The reason why are we here is for the convenience for all of the paintballers in borneo.
